New runs on Blackcomb

Mother Nature had some help from Zeus as a lightning strike sparked a fast-moving forest fire on Blackcomb Mountain in Whistler on Thursday, July 30th. The fire, which started around 2:30 pm north of Blackcomb’s Crystal Ridge area, grew to 75 hectares by evening. Another fire in the Ruby Bowl area of Blackcomb was also started by the lightning strike. After a few days of concentrated efforts by the B.C. Forest Service, the fires were extinguished and all is calm again in Whistler. No person, chairlift, or building was hurt or damaged in the blaze.
On the positive side for us snowboarders – now there are new naturally gladed tree runs waiting for Core Camps this winter in the Crystal Ridge and Ruby Bowl areas of Blackcomb. It should be interesting riding powder through naked, charred trees. See you this winter.
